A recent Kentucky WAVE3 story, 2025 Crime Reduction Plan Focuses on ‘Chronic Crime’ in Pockets of Louisville, is 100% correct to say law enforcement needs our support and resources – not new crimes or stiffer sentences – to fight violent crime.

Solutions must be resourced, and law enforcement across Kentucky is on our front lines. With proper resources (manning, training, and equipping), law enforcement can improve community relations and increase arrests, successful investigations (clearance rates), and prosecutions (convictions).

As an opponent of HB5 as a crime deterrent, I firmly believe that if lawmakers are sincere about putting a stop to violent crime in Louisville and other communities the Commonwealth, we must resource law enforcement so that it can prioritize the prevention of violent crime.

Targeted “hot spot” policing and prioritizing violent crime prevention—including resources for more investigative staff, criminal analysts, and new technology—is critical to making Kentucky neighborhoods safer!
