Washington, D.C. — Right On Crime, a national leader in conservative criminal justice solutions and campaign of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, applauds the signing of the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act, (TSRA) into law by President Trump. The policies enacted through this legislation represent a critical step toward protecting victims of human trafficking, strengthening public safety, and ensuring the justice system distinguishes between predators and those they exploit.
Survivors of trafficking are often coerced into criminal activity as part of their exploitation, leaving them burdened with lasting legal consequences long after their victimization ends. The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act addresses this injustice by providing appropriate relief for survivors by removing barriers to their reentry to society, and allowing the justice system to focus accountability on traffickers while helping victims move forward.
Brett Tolman, Executive Director of Right On Crime and former U.S. Attorney, emphasized the public safety benefits of the law’s victim-centered approach.
“Public safety is strongest when our laws recognize the difference between predators and victims,” Tolman said. “The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act reflects a commonsense approach to justice, one that protects survivors, strengthens trust in the system, and allows law enforcement to focus on the most serious offenders.”
Rachel Wright, National Policy Director for Right On Crime, highlighted the importance of removing barriers that prevent survivors from rebuilding their lives.
“Trafficking survivors often carry the lasting consequences of crimes committed against them,” Wright said. “The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act offers a meaningful path forward—removing unjust barriers, recognizing victimization, and helping survivors rebuild their lives without compromising public safety.”
Right On Crime has long supported policies that prioritize victims, promote accountability, and reinforce a justice system that is both tough on crime and smart in practice. By addressing the unique circumstances faced by trafficking survivors, this law advances a more effective, humane, and safety-focused approach to justice.
