During National Police Week, we pause to honor the men and women in law enforcement who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe. It’s also a time to recognize officers who are going beyond the call of duty—thinking creatively and compassionately to build lasting trust in their communities.
The Boise Police Department is doing just that through a series of impactful outreach programs designed to strengthen relationships with local residents, especially youth.
Programs like Coffee With a Cop give community members a chance to engage with officers in a relaxed, open environment—no uniforms, no pressure, just conversation. Their twice-yearly Shop With a Cop program pairs Boise youth with officers for a memorable shopping trip, often funded by the Boise Police Association and the department’s Victim Witness Unit. Many young participants even choose to purchase items for their family, showing incredible heart and generosity.
Boise PD also connects with young people year-round through the Police Activities League (PAL), which hosts sports leagues, community events, and fundraisers. It’s a proactive way to build positive relationships early on—fostering respect, mentorship, and mutual understanding.
This National Police Week, we applaud the Boise Police Department for leading with creativity, compassion, and commitment to community. These programs are powerful reminders that public safety is built not only through enforcement, but through connection.
