In the heart of Little Rock, Arkansas, the Wolfe Street Foundation stands as a testament to resilience, community, and the transformative power of recovery. Since 1982, this nonprofit organization has been at the forefront of supporting individuals and families affected by addiction, offering a sanctuary where healing begins and hope is restored.

Few remember that Wolfe Street Foundation actually got its start in an old funeral home on Wolfe Street and almost 20 years later moved to its current location on Louisiana Street, a 12,000-square-foot facility that serves as a hub for recovery support in Central Arkansas.

Over the years, the foundation expanded its services to meet the evolving needs of the community with a comprehensive range of programs designed to support individuals at every stage of their recovery journey.

At the core of the Wolfe Street Foundation’s mission is the belief that recovery is a lifelong commitment that thrives within a supportive community. The foundation provides:

  • Peer Recovery Support Services: Certified specialists offer one-on-one support, helping individuals navigate their recovery paths with guidance and understanding.
  • Recovery Meetings: Hosting over 250 meetings each month, including Twelve Step, faith-based, and community-based groups, the foundation ensures that individuals have access to the support they need.
  • Recovery Housing: Offering safe and supportive living environments for those in early recovery, fostering a stable foundation for rebuilding lives.
  • Youth Empowerment Project (YEP): Recognizing the need to address substance use among youth, the foundation launched YEP, Arkansas’s first community-based youth recovery program which provides teens with peer support, mental health resources, and a safe space to build resilience and make positive choices.

From a criminal justice perspective, Wolfe Street Foundation is not just a place for recovery; it’s a catalyst for community and individual change. Through educational programs, awareness campaigns, and advocacy efforts, the foundation works tirelessly to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and supports individuals to steer away from a life of crime.

A notable initiative is the Naloxone Community Hero Project, supported by the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP). It provides training to 1,200 community members per year on recognizing opioid overdoses and administering life-saving naloxone and has been instrumental in combating the opioid crisis in Arkansas.

Another notable initiative is the Foundation’s recovery housing program. This program allows individuals to relocate from environments that do not encourage recovery, and receive support from peer specialists which in turn provides guidance and preparation that ensures long term prosperity. This program is also nationally certified to the highest best practice standards, and helps to certify other houses to those same standards across the state.

The work of the Wolfe Street Foundation is a collective effort, relying on the support and involvement of the community. Whether through volunteering, attending events like the annual Red Carpet Recovery Gala, or making a donation, individuals can play a pivotal role in sustaining and expanding these vital services.

It’s clear that the journey of recovery is not one walked alone. With organizations like the Wolfe Street Foundation leading the way, Arkansas continues to be a place where hope flourishes, lives are transformed, and communities are strengthened.
